Self-efficacy - trying to initiate self epiphany.

As creative people we tend to define ourselves by what we do, but is what we do all of who we are? So I ask you this, what defines you?

This was being asked to me on Zephry (an online community for creatives ) conversation hosted by Kyle Steed.

I didn't know the person. It was a random query from a stranger. It made me think really hard,
show can simple question be that hard to answer - how do you define yourself?

So I asked, " Do I have to dig deep?" ( trying to pressure/challenge myself to type in a sensible answer)
He said:  "The deeper you dig the more you'll uncover"
then I replied: "Your past experiences, the people that inspired and challenged you, your achievements, your failures; these are some of the things that defines who you are at the moment, but it doesn't mean your past defines your future."

It was a lukewarm answer. Thank God its a written Q&A portion, if it were a contest, answering on stage in front of a crowd- I'm doomed. Fyi- answering to the forum was not required, no obligations, I just took the chance to somehow express my pseudo-intellectual self and communicate with an artist of same interest.

This made me think of a new life goal:
To define myself improved, even greater from what I am now.

Foodie Friday - Chicken Wings!

Foodie Fridays

Nix Homemade Bonchon-style Chicken Wings
After a light jog and dining at Bonchon at BGC last sunday, I tried to experiment and recipe-hack the Bonchon Soy-glazed Chicken. Instead of deep-frying the coated chicken wings, I tried to bake them.. turns out its more crunchy, but once you coat it with the soy glaze (thickened soy sauce and spice mixture) these chix tends to be soggy.

Verdict: it somehow tastes like the original, sweet n' savory, best thing is it tastes better when you make your own food, eat it at home, sans cutlery, without the dinning-out manners - munching it all like a hungry monster. grrr..nom nom nom!
Niclectic is Paraplegic

Funny, one other word that sounds like Niclectic is Paraplegic ( a person afflicted with paraplegia, lower half of the body is paralyzed) sounds like my current condition, no, not my health condition, but rather my life- half is paralyzed, I'm stuck.

It's pathetic to think I'm old, but not too old, to be thinking of a career shift, from a graphic artist to an anesthesiologist or a postdoctoral research analyst, huh?

What would you do if you think your life seems to be running smoothly on a certain goal, then suddenly you got bored traveling that straight pavement then suddenly you started walking off road - off-the-road?

Heard an old music on the FM radio this afternoon, with the lyrics: "You got to follow your road" repeated 3-6 times. (will try to google the proper title and the artist)

So, You got to follow your road, what road would it be? how would you know its your road? does this road exclusively travelled by one person? do you have to share it with another person?

What to do? what to do? seems I'm paralyzed, stuck as of this moment. Hope I could be able to walk that road soon or soonest.

Wednesday 4 July 2012

Busy with work. Got a Deadline tomorrow, yet I still find time to start up another blog, the theme: anything, no specific genre, whatever comes to mind, will document it, be it food exploits, travel, art and design - all guilty pleasures. I need to get these thoughts, ideas or lingering experiences out of my head and put it into writing- free up memory space for new ones.

So Why the name NICLECTIC?
A portmanteau, or a combination of two words- "Nic" (from Nico, thats me) and "lectic", a latin term that means "to gather/collect" and "to recite/read".

Niclectic is also a wordplay or homophone for "eclectic" a person that derives ideas, style, or taste from a broad or diverse range of sources. I guess I consider myself an eclectic person, given the fact that i practice minimalism and modernism in most of my designs/ work process but oftentimes I hoard and overdecorate- practice maximalism and surrealism, to exaggerate.

Thats it for my first post. What to do next?
(Finish my work first and get back soon)
